Reeds rustled a bit in a gentle breeze. The scent of cats hung about in many spots along the RiverClan border, but it seemed as if no cats were there. The world was still, except for a bird flying about, or a mouse scampering quickly to its hole.
A sleek dark gray she-cat padded silently to sit in the reeds, looking behind her. This time, the warrior had no time to hunt, although the birds and mice were just screaming to be caught.
Sparrowfur was out training her apprentice, and could not be bothered by such distractions. It was a beautiful day, and Sparrowfur remembered the stories told about Sunningrocks, a wonderful sunning place that had originally been owned by RiverClan until ThunderClan took it.
Now it was long gone, inaccessable by both Clans. All four Clans had moved, because the forest was being ripped up by Twolegs. Sparrowfur would have to deal with what she could. When she could.
For now, it was time to train.

Fallen foliage crinkled quietly as Rainpaw shuffled about after her mentor.Ears snapped around as she heard prey scampering and leaves rustling in the wind.Different scents hit her and she struggled to sort them out.The most prominent scent was that of RiverClan but others were faint. The cream she-cat walked up to Sparrowfur and watched intently not wanting to miss anything. She had become an apprentice not long ago and was still a bit clumsy and needed more practice but she wouldn't be proven wrong. She would be the best there ever was!But success comes slowly.
Rainpaw remained silent waiting for Sparrowfur's instructions.

Sparrowfur scented the air, and smelled Rainpaw just before the warrior saw her. Sparrowfur purred, and beckoned Rainpaw closer with her tail.
"This is one of RiverClan's borders," the dark gray she-cat explained. "Lift your nose and tell me what you scent."
((This is RiverClan/ShadowClan border.))

When beckoned, Rainpaw went closer.Lift your nose and tell me what you scent. Rainpaw lifted her head and drew in the scents. 'Sparrowfur,' she thought pushing her mentors scent away to figure out the rest.'RiverClan,mouse,'. She wrinkled nose when a breeze brought a vile scent. "Something rotting," she reported. She had heard tales of two legs piling old things in ShadowClan territory but she never knew if it was true. "and something musty with lots of plants and water." it was almost like the river edge but not as pleasant by far.Rainpaw wondered what it was.

Sparrowfur purred. "Remember that smell. That's ShadowClan. What you're smelling is their territory. It's pretty marshy there. Don't go past this border!" the dark gray she-cat warned. "We'll walk along the border and I'll show you WindClan's scent, then we'll explore the territory. Then, if our paws aren't warned off or it's late, we can do some hunting."
The mentor stared out at ShadowClan for a while, and it was impossible to know what she was thinking. The RiverClan warrior then turned, continuing to beckon to her apprentice. Her eyes were shining brightly, possibly in some memory or thoughts.

ShadowClan!Rainpaw's ears went flat as she remembered some of the stories she had heard.'Don't go past this border!' she heard Sparrowfur say.Hearing the warning she took care to keep that in mind.Creamy pelt rippled as she shivered.ShadowClan.Gross.
The idea of hunting brightened her mood. Her paws itched as she thought about it.Being able to feed the Clan!First they had to follow along the border.'That could take forever!' she complained silently. She turned back to Sparrowfur and saw her gazing out past the border. She dismissed it and followed as she was asked.

The dark gray she-cat padded along the border until they reached the WindClan border. "Sniff again," ordered Sparrowfur. "See if you can scent WindClan." The mentor had no doubts that her apprentice would be able to, but her brow furrowed slightly as she wondered if Rainpaw would scent anything else. This is where Hawkflight and Leopardstar met, she realized.
Sparrowfur glanced out at the WindClan territory, and decided not to tell Rainpaw that Firepaw was being traded. I can't tell if they know each other well enough, but the news would certainly be unsettling.
Turning back to the training, Sparrowfur lifted her muzzle to see if she could scent any prey on their side of the border. To her delight, their was a mouse or two, and would do well as training until they got back to the River.

Rainpaw nodded and scented the air.The smell of many flowers was getting stale. She figured with new-leaf ending most would die away now.An even fainter smell hit her sourly. It wasn't cat but another animal. What could it be?She also caught a familiar scent.Leopardstar.She didn't think anything unusual had happened. This was the border so it would be normal if Leopardstar lead a patrol here.Rainpaw turned her head up to Sparrowfur. "I smell flowers, and some strange animal, but they are both faint," she reported. She left out Leopardstar figuring it was nothing.

Sparrowfur nodded. "WindClan is past this border, too," she meowed, indicating the border. "They might not see you, but you still wouldn't want to go past. If they do catch, they're bound to be fierce, and it's difficult to hunt in the fields anyway."
The mentor turned her head away from WindClan to her apprentice. "The flowers would probably be faint - they're a couple tail-lengths away, and probably disappearing anyway. The animal is probably a mouse, but my nose might not be working properly." Sparrowfur looked down at her apprentice, her eyes gleaming mischeviously. "Want a lesson catching mice?"
